Our wedding didn’t unfold the way we’d envisioned. We had a big day planned for June 6, 2020, complete with a 250-person guest list (my husband is very social, and the guest list reflected that). But like many couples in 2020, COVID changed everything.
At first, we thought we’d just postpone. But as the months stretched on, we realized waiting might mean years. So, we pivoted. We organized a much smaller wedding and got married at Pine Lake, Alberta (where I grew up) on July 24, 2020 with just 21 people. It wasn’t what we planned, but it turned out to be magical and beautiful in all the best ways.

Intentional Gift Giving
With the times, it meant we didn’t have a bridal shower, no bachelorette or bachelor parties or have a traditional wedding registry. Instead, we had to refocus on following the rules while still making our day special. With a small wedding, it meant our friends and family came together on a few thoughtful, lasting gifts—things we truly use every day. While I didn’t get an Ankarsrum for our wedding (because I was already working with them!) One standout is my beloved MoccaMaster Coffee Maker (but that’s a love story for another post).
If you're getting married soon (or helping someone who is), this mixer is what I’d call a “forever” kind of gift. Not just because it’s made to last a lifetime, but because it grows with you, through all the seasons and stages of life.
It’s not just a mixer, it’s an assistant.
True to its name, the Assistent Original takes on everything from bread dough to whipped cream to grated cheese. You can use it to prep brunch, help with dinner, or batch bake muffins for the freezer. And if you're starting to build a home and routine together, having something reliable in the kitchen just makes life smoother.
It’s beautiful and built to last.
Made in Sweden since the 1940s, it has serious vintage charm, but it’s also solid and powerful. Mine lives on my counter and handles whatever I throw at it. Plus, it comes in colours that can match any kitchen (whether yours is farmhouse, modern, or somewhere in between). I often get stories of units getting passed down to their kids, units that are over 30 years old and still rocking peoples kitchens!
It grows with your life.
Over time, you can add attachments depending on how your cooking style evolves. Maybe one year you're using it to make cinnamon buns for the holidays, and the next you're grinding meat for homemade burgers or using the blender attachment for summer smoothies. It adapts as your life does.
To sum things up; It’s registry-worthy!
Yes, it’s an investment piece. But that’s what makes it perfect for a wedding registry. It’s the kind of gift family members can chip in on together, and unlike an espresso maker or duplicate toaster, it won’t end up in the back of a cupboard. This one sticks around - and actually gets used.
I love gifts that carry a story or meaning. Whether it’s a reminder of the person who gave it to you, or just the meals you’ve made together over the years, a tool like this holds memories.
So if you’re building a registry or shopping for someone who is, I really can’t recommend this mixer enough. It’s one of those gifts that just keeps on giving (and feeding and mixing and kneading) for years to come.
And if you’re the bride? Add it. Trust me. You’ll thank yourself every time you make waffles on a Sunday morning.
